Abilene

The rest of my time in Abilene was spent eating and hanging out with family and friends. Of course.

We had lunch at Rosa's before Bobby had to drive back. My family has been eating at Rosa's (in Odessa) since we were little. My grandparents would let us pick anywhere we wanted to eat when we were visiting and we almost always picked Rosa's. We're easy to please.

Sarah Beth and Joe grilled out for us on Sunday night. I made Strawberry Shortcake for dessert and it was so good. If you're a fan of it with biscuits instead of angel food cake I suggest trying this recipe. Yum.

I decided I wanted a project to do while I was in Abilene. My mom has sewed since before I was born and has always hoped that I would want to learn. That crafty urge has never kicked in until now. I had dreams of sewing a dress using a vintage pattern and fabric, but since I didn't decide to become a seamstress until a few days before I settled for making an apron.

I was excited when we picked out the fabric and my mom announced to the lady measuring it that it was my first sewing project. She told me that she had a girl in earlier working on her first sewing project too. A matching shirt and shorts. Oh, and she was 9 yrs old. But the lady reassured me that it was never too late to learn to sew. Well, I didn't need reassurance before you compared me to a 9 yr old...

Anyway, here is the finished product. I think the only way my mom could have been more proud is if I had sewn from a pattern in Spanish.

Tuesday night my grandparents wanted to introduce us to their new favorite Mexican food restaurant. So we drove an hour to Ballinger to eat at Alejandra's. It was a great time to catch up and the fajitas did not disappoint.

On Wednesday I met Sarah Beth at La Popular for breakfast burritos before we left for Dallas. Are you sensing a pattern here? Yes, I had Mexican food almost every single day I was in Texas--sometimes twice a day. No complaints.

My parents drove me halfway to Dallas. We stopped at the SmokeStack to meet Benton for lunch. Another place that our family has gone to for years. The big draw used to be the Dublin Dr. Pepper, but now it's a perfect meeting place for us halfway between Abilene and Dallas.

As always, I loved going home. It was the perfect relaxing "vacation"!
