Pieces of home

I know Valentine's Day was February 14 for most of you. But my Valentine's Day wasn't until February 22. My grandmother sends all of the grandkids Valentine's cookies each year (we also get Halloween and Easter treats--even my cousins who are married with kids of their own). Of course I love our family traditions and I look forward to these every year. My cookies took over 2 weeks to make the trek to Boston. The cookies were crumbled and hard as a rock, but I still ate a few. The chocolate covered cherries didn't stand a chance. And my cousin, Molly, included a cute scottie dog bath set that almost made it in one piece. Apparently, the postal service can just stamp "Damaged in Handling" and they're off the hook. But I don't care, I loved it.

And a few weeks ago I got this package in the mail. My mom and other grandmother bought me these shirts so I wouldn't forget my roots. My mom almost didn't buy the "Don't Mess with Texas Girls" shirt because she thought people would take it as a challenge here. Bring it on. :)

And I stumbled across this blog which I love. She discusses in detail her love of mexican food and even a love for Whataburger and Taco Bueno. She also takes beautiful pictures and praises Texas artists. Pretty much my thoughts exactly. Now if only she lived in Boston and had already tried out all the mexican food restaurants here...
