I had lots of friends in town last week and weekend. I would like to think that they all would have come to visit me anyway, but the occasion this time was that the Mavs were in town.
Tuesday night I finally got to see Juno with our stat crew friend, Charlie. I loved the movie, but just wish they would have turned the soundtrack down. Random. Then Wednesday night the Mavs people arrived and I went to dinner at Kingston Station with Charlie, Art and Erin. We had burgers with fried eggs (much like the Stodg burger at The Porch, Dallas folks) and truffle fries. I think my new obsession is truffle fries. I've ordered them as an entree before. Don't judge me.
Then we met up with the rest of the Mavs crew: Sarah, Mark and I even got to see Laura Green and Coach Daddy for a few minutes. Lydia is probably the only person that will know these people, but I know she appreciates the details.
My friends Jen and Julie got in Thursday afternoon and Thursday night was the long awaited game. Their trip has been planned since right after I moved up here. There was no question as to when they would come visit. It would be whenever the Mavs played the Celtics.
Backstory for those of you that don't know why...I became friends with Jennifer and Julie when I accepted the fateful offer to work at The Heritage Organization. We all worked in the HR department at this shady and yet awesome place to work. I started getting them tickets to the Mavs game each year and it just so happened that the first game they went to was Mavs vs. Celtics. We've celebrated this anniversary for 5 years now!
The game was a lot of fun. Right up until the last couple of minutes. I had every confidence in our team and we were cheering loudly. We put up with the death stares and the yells of "How 'bout them Cowboys?". Yeah, good one. But sadly, we just didn't pull through.
Here's a picture of us in the arena.
And here we are at the VIP access waiting for the players after the game. And VIP apparently meant eVery sIngle Person cheering for the Mavs. We didn't feel all that special.
After the game, we met up with friends. Some guy leaving the game was in such a hurry that he kept on driving when his license plate fell off. We tried to flag him down, but he sped away. So of course, Jen tucked the license plate into her coat for the rest of the evening. Best souvenir ever.
Friday it rained all day. So we stayed in my apartment all day and watched full seasons of How I Met Your Mother, It's Always Sunny and Friends. Cause you can't do that in Texas, right? But I was a good host and made breakfast for my guests. It's full-service when you stay with me.
Saturday was much more productive. I gave them my personal tour of the Freedom Trail--trust me, it's much more interesting than the ones you pay for.
We took the T out to Cambridge to see Harvard. We had the BEST burgers and frappes (or what we Southerners call milkshakes) at Mr. Bartley's. And I broke my New Year's Resolution of no cokes for a homemade root beer.
Then we walked back to my apartment. Jen and Julie estimated that we walked about 6 miles on Saturday. Maybe that cancels out everything we ate?
After a quick (or maybe long) nap we got ready and went to dinner at The Beehive, a jazz restaurant and bar. It has a fun atmosphere and great food. And to quote Julie she had "the best meal of her LIFE." It's that good.
Sunday we walked to the North End to visit Mike's Pastry before they had to catch their flight. We walked there again so the Italian pastries we had might as well have been fat free. Are you sensing a pattern here?
It was a fun weekend and I loved getting to catch up with Jen and Julie. And I'm looking forward to my next visitors!

We had SO much fun in Boston! I'm ready to visit again when it's warm, though. You missed the best part of the weekend...Ben & Jerry's Cinnamon Swirl Ice Cream?!?!?
Finally...the post we have all been waiting for. It looks like so much fun and just reading about the food is making me hungry.
I am so jealous! Mike and I need to try to get up there soon. I miss you!
Man, I am so hungry now. It sounds like Boston is my kind of city! This definitely makes me want to book a flight & come in town this weekend. I need to talk to SB about this...we must come visit soon!
