This was my first Thanksgiving away from home and my first Thanksgiving to cook. I love going to my grandparents' (we alternate each year) and sitting around talking with family and of course, watching football. But I probably would never have attempted a turkey unless I had to. My friend, Celeste, came to visit me in Boston so I had someone to eat turkey with! I insisted on having a traditional Thanksgiving meal and I documented the experience to prove to my mom that I did in fact touch a raw turkey.
I actually have pictures of the raw turkey, but they're just not blog appropriate. So here's the final outcome. And yes, that is a Coors Light can in our turkey. Sorry, Mom.
Cooking a turkey was actually one of the easiest things I've done. I had psyched myself out about it, but once you "prepare" the turkey there's not much else to do. But sit and wait. And go have coffee. And walk outside...since it was sunny and warm here in Boston. It was beautiful, but I was so jealous of all the calls from Texas telling me about the snow!
The leaves are finally falling here in Boston (3 weeks late as I'm told by the locals)...
The meal that we finally enjoyed.
We managed to stay in the apartment for the rest of the day, napping, watching football, napping, watching movies, napping... I have to say that it didn't really feel like Thanksgiving since I was away from my family, but overall it was a fun and relaxing day. I did get phone calls from everyone in my family and for someone who hates to talk on the phone, I loved every minute of it!
Here are pictures from the rest of the weekend...
Random picture of a purse from 1991.
When we ventured out on Saturday we were greeted by an entire block of fire trucks and ambulances on my street. One of the apartments across the street was on fire. Smoke was coming out the side of the chimney. This is why I need some lessons in fire building before I attempt my first fire.
We had some good seafood.
We had fun doing lots of nothing. I'm thankful for a friend that would fly across the country to visit and not care that we did not have an itinerary for the weekend.
And I'm thankful for all of my family and friends. I don't take it for granted that I still feel close to everyone when I'm 1700 miles away! Mom and Dad, thank you for praying for me even when you wished I would change my crazy mind about moving to Boston. Bobby, thank you for making me laugh when I needed it. Benton, thank you for moving me again and being someone I can look up to. I love you all!
